On 19 November 2020, Executive Committee meeting of IndustriALL Global Union, our international parent organization, was held by teleconference. Our Training and Collective Agreement Department Director Üzeyir Ataman and our union’s International Relations Expert Cemal Hoşver and many trade union representatives from different regions of the world attended the meeting, continued throughout the day.
In the first part of the meeting, following the opening speech of IndustriALL Global Union President Jörg Hoffman, agenda and minutes of the Executive Committee meeting held on 17 June 2020 were approved by member unions. IndustriALL Global Union General Secretary Valter Sanches shared information with members about annual report prepared by the secretariat, mentioning about IndustriALL Global Union’s responses to the impact of the pandemic in sectors, regions and projects. The current situations regarding Covid-19 in countries were discussed by representatives of member unions. IndustriALL Global Union Assistant General Secretary Atle Høie gave information about financial impact and projections as to Covid-19 crisis on IndustriALL Global Union. The report prepared by Women Committee was presented by the co-chairs of the IndustriALL Global Union Women Committee, Eva Arcos and Monica Veloso.
In the second part of the meeting, it was decided to hold IndustriALL Global Union’s 3. Congress, which is planned to be held in Cape Town, South Africa in September 2021 by teleconference. Following the presentation of the report prepared by Work Group, statuses, administrative and financial issues were discussed. The importance of stuggling worldwide precarious work, protecting women workers from harassment and attacks, improving workers’ wages and purchasing power, and strengthening the unity and solidarity of all workers during Covid-19 underlined.
