Our international parent unions, IndustriALL Global Union and IndustriAll European Trade Union sent a solidarity message to our union regarding the victims of earthquake in İzmir, Turkey.
Dear sisters and brothers,
We are writing this letter to you on behalf of IndustriALL Global Union and industriAll European Trade Union, both representing millions of workers in mining, energy and manufacturing industries in Europe and worldwide, to mourn the victims of the earthquake that hit Greece and Turkey last Friday. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims.
We are very sorry to hear about the death toll and the destruction caused by the earthquake on 30 October that mostly affected the Greek island of Samos, and the city of Izmir in Turkey. The 6.6-7.0 magnitude earthquake also triggered tidal waves that affected coastal areas and islands in both Turkey and Greece.
We wish to express our full support and solidarity with the ongoing rescue efforts, the treatment of the injured people, and the necessary reconstruction of destroyed and badly damaged buildings. We are fully appreciative of the rescue and aid efforts in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
