The lawsuit filed upon the murder of Abdullah Karacan, Honorary President of our union, ended on 14 July 2020. The murderer was sentenced to 20 year’s imprisonment on High Criminal Court in Adapazarı. Some of our fellows were incomprehensibly punished for trying to prevent the murderer.
The court acknowledged that Karacan was killed by the murderer, but did not penalize heavy sentence to reassure the public conscience. We do not approve this unfair decision in any way. We believe that this decision will be corrected in appeal process and justice will be served.
As Lastik-İş, we will keep Karacan’s memory and we will do whatever it takes for this cause. We will make every legal and legitimate attempt to ensure that our brutally murdered President rest in peace.
This judicial decision is not discouraging, but encouraging those who intend similar murders. Thus it cannot be considered as a reasonable and conscientious decision. As common voice of all our members, Lastik-İş, our union will fulfill what it takes to keep Karacan alive forever and make him immortal.
History will certainly prove that labourers and those who fight for their rights and freedom are right, not murderers.
